Food for Families Food Drive set for Tuesday in Ville Platte and Mamou

It is that time of year again for another KLFY Channel 10 Food for Families Drive. The event is set for Tuesday, December 5 at the Northside Civic Center between the hours of 5:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. and at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Mamou between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
Eugene Fontenot, executive director of Ville Platte’s Care and Share Center, thanked the public for their past generosity and encourages them to be as generous this year as well.
Fontenot said the items in greatest demand in this area are rice, flour, cornmeal, pasta, tuna, peanut butter, baking products, cooking oil, soap, and detergents. He said that the can goods are also running low.
Monetary donations are always welcome. Other items which are distributed to needy families include non-perishable items, dried potatoes and beans, powdered milk, soup, baby diapers and wipes, Jello, jelly, syrup, sugar, seasonings, mayonnaise, mustard, tomato sauce, coffee, coffee creamer, tea, Kool-Aid, breakfast foods, hot and cold boxed cereals, crackers, home paper products, toilet tissue, toilet articles, and shampoo. No homemade products will be accepted.
Fontenot invited the community to bring items to the Civic Center and St. Ann’s on Tuesday. He said those wishing to volunteer can come to the center on Tuesday. All items collected will remain in these communities.
