With the retirement of Derek Marcantel, Fire Chief Chris Harrison turned to the board of the Evangeline Parish Fire District Two, Ward 1, for its input on whom to hire at the meeting Tuesday night.
“We have a list of people who passed the test, and I’d like your opinion if you have any ideas on who you want to hire before we move on,” Chief Harrison told the board.
Board member Sean Devillier stated he prefers leaving the decision up to the chief. He said, “I, personally, don’t have the time to sit down and interview anybody.”
Nat Thomas, who is also on the board, told Chief Harrison, “I’m good with whoever you choose.”
The board agreed to give Chief Harrison carte blanche on the hiring process.
Chief Harrison also informed the board on the upcoming ratings. “The rating packet came in, and we compiled everything,” he said. “I answered every question the best I could, and I sent it back in last week.”
No date is set for the ratings to occur. In a matter related to the ratings, board member Ted Demourelle said, “We need to do the culverts on the property that we bought for rating purposes. We’re using it as a training ground, but, as of right now, we don’t have access to it. We need to go ahead and put the culvert in and some gates.”
The board voted to move forward with the culvert project since it already has the necessary permits.
