Final early voting numbers are announced

Early voting for the November 6th election came to a close last Tuesday with a total of 2,235 parish residents casting their votes.
The total number of individuals who voted in person at the Evangeline Parish Registrar of Voters Office was 2060, while 175 votes were cast by mail-in ballots. The break down of voters by political party show 1,424 Democrats, 561 Republicans and 250 other cast their vote early for the upcoming election.
A break down of how many people have voted in person and absentee in each ward is as follows: Ward 1 (Ville Platte, Chataignier), 1,557; Ward 2 (Basile), 47; Ward 3 (Mamou), 370; Ward 4 (Pine Prairie, Beaver), 135; and Ward 5 (Turkey Creek, Bayou Chicot), 126.
Elections taking place consist of mayor, aldermen and chief of police in Ville Platte, Mamou, Chataignier and Basile, as well as school board member in Districts 1, 2 and 3. Other races include Louisiana Secretary of State and United States Congressman for District 4. There are also several amendments voters will decide on during this election.
