Late Sunday afternoon, firefighters with the Faubourg Fire Department were dispatched to assist law enforcement officers with a fatal single vehicle crash that occurred on La. Hwy. 182 near Cotton Patch Road (Whiteville area.)
In a release from Louisiana State Police, it states that “the crash claimed the life of an unrestrained passenger,” whose “identity is being withheld at this time pending notification to next of kin.”
According to State Police, “the preliminary investigation revealed 30-year-old Alfredo Segura-Prado of Bunkie was traveling north on LA 182 in a 2005 GMC Sierra.” The release explained that “while in a left curve in the roadway, the vehicle crossed the center line into the southbound lane.” The driver, Prado, then “over-corrected to the right, ran off the right side of the roadway, and struck a tree as it began to overturn.”
The individual killed in the wreck, which occurred around 6:00 p.m., was a 34-year-old male, who “was not wearing his seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle.”
The driver was also not wearing his seat belt and “suffered serious injuries.” Following the crash, Prado was transported to Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria for treatment.
According to State Police, “impairment is suspected to be a factor in the crash,” and a “toxicology sample was taken from Prado and submitted to the LSP Crime Lab for analysis.”
This crash remains under investigation. However, Prado has been arrested by LSP for vehicular homicide, careless operation, driving left of center and no seat belt.
