The public can now access information online from the Evangeline Parish Assessor’s Office since it launched its website earlier this month.
According to Deputy Assessor Josh Fontenot, who assisted Assessor Dirk Deville with this project, the new website allows the public to have access to “any and all of the assessor’s data” except for maps, which will be added to the webpage in the near future. Fontenot said, “Any data you can get here at our office, you now can get from our website. And, you can access it all for free.”
Information that is currently available consist of property values, location of property, and deed information. Information such as the square footage of property or a home will not be on the website. Maps that show property lines are the only portion of the website that has not been completed.
According to Fontenot, the maps should be online for the public “next year around this time with no problems.” Fontenot however also stated that he is going to do what he can to try to get the maps on the assessor’s website by the end of this year.
The new website, Fontenot said, is going to be a benefit for tax payers in their private and professional life. The Deputy Assessor said, “People who do land research, like bankers, are really going to be glad to have the website because it is going to allow them to easily access any information they may need without having to call and request it.”
Once the GIS (geographical information system) maps have been added to the website, Fontenot said individuals, such as hunters, will really find the maps useful.
Fontenot said, “The GIS maps are going to be helpful when it comes to things like hunting. When I go hunting in different parishes that have GIS maps, I always pull up their assessor’s website and use there maps because it shows you where property lines are located. I think hunters here will enjoy that.”
