Escapee from Ville Platte found dead in Crowley

An individual wanted for escaping from the Ville Platte City Jail earlier this month was found dead in Acadia Parish.
Crowley Police Chief Jimmy Broussard confirmed to KLFY-TV 10 that Jahmal Rashad Byers, 34, was found Tuesday in a residence located in Crowley.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the cause of death is still under investigation, and the matter remain open.
Byers had escaped from the city jail in Ville Platte on October 15. He was serving as a trustee and exited the facility through the lobby door.
According to Ville Platte Police Chief Neal Lartigue, Byers was serving time on drug charges.
