Fire Chief Chris Harrison reported to the Evangeline Parish Fire District Number 2 Board about the newest fire unit in Chataignier.
“Unit 416 has been put into service,” the chief reported. “We’ve done a training on the Hurst tools, the driver, and everything involved with all of the Chataignier firemen that were present at the meeting. One of the brand new Hurst tools broke on it, but they’re going to be repairing it.”
The chief also reported that the department answered to one structure fire, four grass fires, one extracation, and one vehicle fire over the month of March.
The board also discussed plans for the new fire station in Faubourg that will be similar to the one in Belaire Cove that has a the living quarters in the middle and two stalls on each side. Plans are to make the new station big enough to house the new fire trucks that continually to increase in size.
Board President Danny McDaniel commented, “I rather it be too big than too small because you never know what the future holds.” He added, “It’s better we build it bigger because it’s not like these stations will be here for 10 years. In 50 or 60 years when we’re long gone, they are still going to need those stations.”
