Early voting is set for one-cent tax election

Registrar of Voters Lucas Buller would like to announce the close of books for the Saturday, April 24, election. The last day to register in person or by mail is Wednesday, March 24, and the last day to register online using the Geauxvote.com website is Saturday, April 3.
On the ballot, is a Law Enforcement District Proposition (Sales Tax). The following is the proposition:
“Shall the Law Enforcement District of the Parish of Evangeline, State of Louisiana (the “District”), be authorized to levy and collect a tax of one percent (1%) (the “Tax”), (an estimated $3,700,000 reasonably expected at this time to be collected from the levy of the tax for an entire year), in perpetuity, commencing July 1, 2021, upon the sale at retail, the use, the lease or rental, the consumption, and storage for use or consumption, of tangible personal property and on sales of services in the District, all as defined by law, with the proceeds of the Tax (after paying the reasonable and necessary costs and expenses of collecting and administering the Tax) for the purposes of paying all lawful expenses of the sheriffs office, including but not limited to capital expenditures, equipment acquisition and salaries?”
If you need to register to vote or make changes to your registration you may do so in person at the Registrar of Voters Office from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday or online at geauxvote.com.
Early voting for the April 24, election will begin Saturday, April 10, and end on Saturday, April 17. Early voting will not be conducted on Sunday, April 11.
Early voting will be conducted at the Registrar’s Office between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
