Present at the Rotary Club of Ville Platte’s fall social, held Tuesday, November 10, at Knobbhill, was Rotary District 6200 Governor Yvonne Norman of Opelousas.
The following is Norman’s remarks to the club:
“You’re community is very blessed. You have a very viable newspaper. You have a radio station. You have an agricultural festival still in your community. You have major corporations flourishing. And, the most important thing you have is the people who live their lifestyle. They merge together and respect one another. I commend you for that.”
“Your Rotary Club is strong, and you are seeking the best for your children and the community. You are living the opening of opportunity for so many people.”
“You have a community that’s very wonderful, and it is allowing people to live the best life. You might not be Opelousas where we are the crossroads of I-49 and Hwy. 190, but what you have is something unique and something the children can be proud of. This is where people know one another and respect one another. I applaud you for that.”
Norman went on to thank the Rotary Club for its participation in grant project with the Opelousas Rotary Clubs to work on kitchen improvements at the Refinery in Opelousas.
“The kitchen is a whole different process now,” she said. “The thing that’s happened because of the equipment and the work is the men who are living there are actually developing their skills, and they want to work. It is a place where men can get started and start their lives over and go forward.
