On Thursday a hearing was held where the original charge against Dequince Brown was amended to lesser charges.
Brown was arrested back in July of last year after being involved in a traffic stop that resulted in the death of her boyfriend, DeJuan Guillory, at the hands of an Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Deputy.
During the hearing in Judge Gary Ortego’s courtroom, the State amended the bill of information now putting Brown facing three lesser charges.
The three charges the 21-year-old now faces are felony battery of a police officer, aggravated assault upon a peace officer and attempt to disarm a peace officer.
According to the amended bill of information, Brown is charged with battery of a police officer, because she is believed to have “committed a battery upon a police officer, namely, Holden LaFleur, resulting in an injury that required medical attention when the offender had reasonable grounds to believe the victim was a police officer acting in the performance of his duty.”
The bill of information also states that the offense of attempt to disarm a peace officer is believe to have been committed “through the use of force or threat of force, and without the consent of the peace officer, by attempting to take possession of a firearm from the person of a peace officer or from an area within the peace officer’s immediate control.”
After amending the original charge, Brown was arraigned and entered a plea of not guilty.
Her trial date has been set for May 14, 2018.
