Demons, Panthers win; Trojans fall

It was a fun-filled Thursday afternoon for two of the parish baseball teams, as the Mamou Demons and the Pine Prairie Panthers both picked up key district wins. Mamou delivered a resounding 11-1 victory over the Church Point Bears, while Pine Prairie eased past the Iota Bulldogs 4-2.
With the win, Mamou improves to 10-14 on the year and 5-6 in league play. Pine Prairie moves to 13-14 on the season and 7-5 in district competition.
The Demons are scheduled to play Lafayette Christian on the road tomorrow at 6 p.m. The Panthers host Crowley tomorrow with a start time of 6 p.m.
However, fun was not in the air for the Sacred Heart Trojans, as they dropped a 6-3 district game to the Westminster Crusaders. With the loss Sacred Heart drops to 13-12-1 on the season and 3-2 in district play. The Trojans host Ville Platte tomorrow at 4 p.m.
Here is a rundown of those three games played.

Church Point
vs. Mamou
Mamou wasted no time in dismantling Church Point, scoring five runs in the bottom of the first. The Demons added to their lead in the top of the third by plating a duo of runs.
Church Point picked up their lone run of the game in the top of the fourth inning. Nevertheless, Mamou continued to pound the baseball, securing four more runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning to earn the run-rule win.

Iota vs. Pine Prairie
JJ Sims singled and later scored to give Pine Prairie a 1-0 lead after one inning of play. Iota tied the game up in the top of the third, but the Panthers did not let that stand for long, as they netted another run in the bottom half of the inning to go up 2-1.
Pine Prairie added two more in the bottom of the fifth. The Bulldogs closed the gap in the top of the sixth, but could not get any closer.

Sacred Heart vs.
Westminster
With the game tied at 1-1 after one inning of play, Westminster produced three runs in the third inning to go up 4-1 over Sacred Heart.
The Trojans inched closer in the top of the fourth, plating two more runs. Be that as it may, the Crusaders finished off the game with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to close out the win.
