Crash on Hwy. 106 claims life of 44-year-old parish resident Danny Chambliss

On Wednesday, Louisiana State Police reported that a pedestrian had been killed in an early morning crash in Evangeline Parish.
In a release from LSP, it states, “Shortly after 4:30 a.m. on September 26, 2018, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a crash involving a pedestrian that resulted in a fatality on La. Hwy. 106 at La. 3042 in Evangeline Parish.”
According to the release, the incident claimed the life of 44-year-old Danny Chambliss of St. Landry.
LSP reported that the “initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Chambliss was walking across La. 106,” and that “for reasons still under investigation, Chambliss walked into the path of an eastbound 2005 Ford Ranger driven by 19-year-old Landon Fontenot of Ville Platte.”
In the release it stated that “Chambliss was struck by Fontenot’s vehicle in the eastbound lane of La. 106.”
According to the release, “Chambliss sustained fatal injuries a result of the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Evangeline Parish Coroner’s Office. Fontenot was properly restrained and was not injured.”
Impairment is not suspected, but routine toxicology tests are pending. At this time the crash remains under investigation.
