A Fins, Feathers, and Fur Cook-off and Family Day are planned for Saturday, September 5, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Crooked Creek Recreation Park, located at 1300 Sandy Beach Dr north of Ville Platte.
Entry fee is $30 per judged dish. Contestants must submit one entry form and entry fee for each additional dish. All food must be cooked on the park grounds. A minimum of three pounds of wild game per entry. One main dish is to be entered per entry (with rice and an additional side if desired). Electricity will be limited, so prepare to provide your own. No ground fires will be allowed. Organizers will provide tasting bowls, forks, and spoons for judges and for participants of Taster’s Choice Award. Contestants shall provide all butane burners, camping stoves, BBQ pits, and serving equipment. Contestants may bring a 12’ by 12’ canopy, tables, and chairs. Contestants are responsible for set up/ tear down and cleaning of their cooking area.
Contestant should pre-register by mail or in person. All same day registrations will cost $35 per dish per category. Same say registrations will be accepted until 11 a.m. Booth space will be allotted in order of receipt of payment. Check-in and set-up is 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on that morning. All booths must be set up by 10:30 a.m. Review of rules is at 10:30 a.m. Contestants must begin cooking by 11 a.m. Judges samples must be ready for pick up by 2:30 p.m. Taster’s Choice will begin at 3 p.m. to participants with appropriate armbands. Only participants with armbands may sample food until the winners are named. Additional votes may be purchased for $1 each by tasters with an armband.
