The five candidates seeking election to fill the vacant position of Ville Platte/Ward 1 City Marshal will now have to wait additional time for voters to head to the polls as state officials again delayed the election because of fears of the coronavirus.
With the delay, the primary election will be held on Saturday, July 11, and the general election will be held on Saturday, August 15.
The special election, according to Evangeline Parish Registrar of Voters Lucas Buller, will not affect the election of city marshal which is slated for November. The winner of the special election will have to run again at that time.
Qualifying dates for that position and the other positions on the November ballot are still to be determined by the Louisiana Legislature.
Also set for the July election is the state’s Presidential Preference Primary.
