On August 10, 2020 at approximately 8:30 p.m. Officers responded to an alarm activation at a bank on West Main Street. Upon arrival Officers observed a black male inside the building. The male suspect was wearing khaki shorts and not wearing a shirt. The suspect saw the Officer and ran through the front door of the building and led Officers on a foot pursuit. Officers lost the suspect in the area of magnolia Street.
While investigating the break in, Officers discovered that the electricity had been turned off at the breaker box and multiple parts of the building had sustained damage. Officers also reported that multiple offices had been ransacked but the manager was not able to determine that anything was missing at that time.
After further investigation, Brain Keith Thomas, age 40, of 1813 State Avenue, Ville Platte has been arrested and booked into the Ville Platte City Jail on the charges of simple burglary, criminal damage to property and theft. Thomas was transferred to the Evangeline Parish Jail where he is being held without bond.
Chief Lartigue stated that Thomas is a possible suspect in other incidents recently and more charges are possible.
