When the Evangeline Parish School Board lost Dr. Bobbie Deshotel (District 2, Ward 2), they needed a temporary replacement. They found one in Nick Chaumont. So far, he likes being on the school board, but right now he’s still learning and observing.
“It’s a privilege to follow Dr. Bobbie Deshotel, who had 51 years of service. That’s a tremendous feat,” said Chaumont. “I’m just glad to be in his shoes and do this for the children and the community. He’s already set a great example and done a lot of funding for this community. I’m kind of just riding along, but I want to continue what he’s paved for us. I really appreciate that.”
In his swearing-in speech, Chaumont thanked his family for sticking by him. “I don’t think I can do this without y’all. I don’t want to do this without y’all.” He also thanked the school board, superintendent and staff, and principals for their support.
Chaumont is from Oberlin but married Shanna Fruge from Basile. They moved from Lake Charles to Basile in 2005. They have three daughters. He works at Louisiana Crane and Construction out of Eunice where he is an account manager. He plans to run for his seat in the November election.
