Chasity Vizinat Guillory, on behalf of Alumni of Chataignier High School, presented her ideas to the Chataignier Village Council on Monday, November 25, for an alumni event.
“In the past,” Guillory said, “we have tried to hold events to bring people who once came to the schools of Chataignier together, and we’ve always had to do that out of town.”
Guillory proposed having the next alumni event at new village park in Chataignier. “It’s always been a hope and a dream that we could bring people back to Chataignier,” she said. “My thought for an event would not only be alumni who attended the Chataignier schools but also the community. It would be an open event for all current and past residents. It would bring people back to the town to see the upgrades and see how wonderful the park is looking.”
The proposed event is set for either March 14 or March 15, 2020, and, as Guillory explained, “If there is a profit, we could turn around and donate it to the village for the events fund.”
Councilmembers voiced their support for the event to be held at the park, but Mayor Justin Darbonne raised a concern.
“The only problem that may come up is everybody is going to want to use the park for anything,” the mayor said. “We need to try to have some kind of rules and regulations. I don’t want any four wheelers and hot rods to drive on our property making ruts and tearing up what we just built.”
The council tabled the matter until it can come up with some written rules and regulations for the park.
In other business, the council voted to approve a resolution to apply for an LGAP grant to purchase a bush hog attachment, voted to approve a resolution to apply for a CWEF grant for the water system, voted to introduced an amendment to an ordinance regarding village administrator pay, set the Christmas parade for December 8, and heard from Village Administrator Gail McDavid about a turtle that shut down the new sewer system.
