Chataignier council learns of updates to sewer plant at recent meeting

Following a special meeting earlier this month regarding an emergency grant request to replace a burnt pump at the sewer lift station, the Chataignier Village Council at its regular meeting Monday learned the grant request had not been officially approved by the state.
The findings came from Village Administrator Gail McDavid who stated the news was “based on some verbal conversations” that he has had with the state.
McDavid added he felt confident enough about the approval of the grant request that he “asked the vendor to go ahead and order the parts.”
The village administrator also reported the other sewer work is “basically completed” except for the fence around the area. McDavid stated the village will now have to purchase certain supplies because of the work such as special oils, special grease, spare belts, liquid chlorine, and a rake.
Todd Deville, on behalf of Village Engineer J. Ronald Landreneau, further reported the sewer plant is up and running except for some tweaking to get everything set. Upon recommendation of Deville, the council voted to accept the project as substantially complete.
In other reports, McDavid stated the new tires have been installed on the police unit, and Mayor Jackie Malveaux Thomas encouraged residents to vote on November 6.
