Sabrina Salling from Central Louisiana Electric Company (CLECO) updated the Chataignier Village Council about some new safety measures regarding the village’s Christmas lights.
“We’ve kind of been letting it go here in Chataignier, but we really need these weather heads put up on every pole that you plan on hanging your Christmas lights,” she told the council. “That way it’s secure, the light can’t fall, and the wire can’t come down. It’s very secure and safe.”
She added, “We have this in all our other towns, and it’s just a safety precaution. It’s basically like a weather head that you see on your home. There’s a switch where you can turn the electricity off in case there’s some reason you have to work on the line. Also, in the instance that we can’t do your Christmas lights, then you guys can use a ladder to hang them up and plug them in.”
Salling advised the council that the estimated cost is $30.00 for each one, and that it is the city’s cost. According to Village Administrator Gayle McDavid, there are roughly two dozen Christmas lights in the village.
During this discussion, no further action was taken.
In public comments, a Mrs. Arvie told the council that TJ Arvie would like to do some projects in the village. She stated that he is the same person who painted the murals in the new Ville Platte Girls and Boys Place.
“He wants to just come and paint that old brick bank building and put the city seal on it because it’s such an eye sore,” Mrs. Arvie said. “They want to do that and also paint a sign down Vine Street that says Village of Chataignier.”
She also told the council that Arvie is flying down to Chataignier from Houston to paint the new Evangeline Parish Library Branch building in the village. “He just wants to do it for free since they’re going to come down for the library.”
In other public comments, another resident of the village told the council about a bobcat sighting around his residence.
The Chataignier council also heard from Brian Ardoin who is a candidate for Evangeline Parish Sheriff in the 2019 election.
Acting Mayor Pro Tem Debbie Fontenot presided over the meeting in the absence of Mayor Jackie Malveaux Thomas, who was under the weather.
