The Ville Platte Chamber of Commerce meeting that had been set for yesterday has been rescheduled for Wednesday, January 24, 2018.
During the meeting, chamber members are set to discuss the recent loss of funding the organization usually received from the Evangeline Parish Police Jury in the past.
In a recent email announcing the meeting, it stated, “On December 22, 2017, Donald Bergeron emailed a notice to the Ville Platte Chamber of Commerce stating that the monthly payment of $650 to the Ville Platte Chamber of Commerce for industrial inducement has been removed from the Evangeline Parish Police Jury’s budget.”
The loss of this $7,800 received yearly by the chamber was described in the meeting announcement as “detrimental to our Ville Platte Chamber.”
Last week, the Ville Platte Gazette reached out to EPPJ Secretary-Treasurer Donald Bergeron for statement from the police jury concerning this matter.
Bergeron said, “Representatives of the Chamber and the Evangeline Parish Police Jury are in discussion over this matter right now. I am not authorized to issue any other statement at this time.”
The meeting will be held at its original time of 12:00 p.m. at Cottage Couture.
