A former Ville Platte City Councilman who is a teacher at Opelousas Junior High School was arrested Tuesday, April 28, for alleged indecent behavior with a juvenile.
Taranza Arvie, 57, was booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail after allegedly exchanging inappropriate messages with at least one female student. According to police reports, there may be more students involved.
Police began their investigation after the student’s mother noticed the text messages which were unrelated to school work. The messages, however, were meant to entice the student to Arvie’s home for alcoholic beverages and sexual activity.
Pending the investigation, Arvie is on leave without pay.
Arvie previously served two terms on the Ville Platte City Council representing District F. He was first elected in September 2006 defeating Bobby LaHaye and J. Barney Deshotel Sr. Arvie received 56 percent of the vote and was elected to replace Bill Jeanmard on the council after he was elected mayor.
