MERMENTAU – In the aftermath of Hurricane Laura, a senior housing developer has announced it can provide housing options to low income elderly citizens who may have been displaced from their homes in Louisiana. The Elderly Housing Development & Operations Corporation (EHDOC), which provides subsidized housing and supportive health and social services to seniors aged 62 and older to encourage independence while aging in place, has announced it has available apartment units throughout southwest and central Louisiana.
Melissa Tarrant, Vice President of Field Operations for the firm, noted, “We were saddened to see the property damage throughout the state caused by Hurricane Laura. Luckily, we did not have severe damage to our senior communities other than temporary power outages, shingles blown away and some damage due to fallen trees. Our Community Managers are standing by to review applications for permanent residence from seniors in need of quality one-bedroom units.”
According to Tarrant, four properties have immediate availability:
·Riverbend Apartments, 118 North 13th Street, Mermentau.
·Morse Manor, 122 East Duson, Morse.
·Village De Memoire, 1001 North Reed Street, Ville Platte.
·Savoy Heights Apartments, 909 Cherry Street, Mamou.
Other EHDOC Louisiana properties include:
·Chateau Des Amis, 955 West Dardeau, Ville Platte.
·Point Villa Apartments, 106 Tan Street, Church Point.
·Leisure Lane Apartments, 611 Sunrise Street, Rayne.
·Pine Grove Apartments, Pine Crest Drive, Pineville.
·Oakwood Apartments, 101 McNutt Street, Cheneyville.
·Sunshine Center apartments, 1851 Jean Street, Leesville.
The EHDOC units are one bed, one bath apartments with kitchens with stove and refrigerator and air conditioning. Amenities include on-site laundry, community room and more. The properties have on-site community managers and service coordination services.
As part of the company’s support of low-income seniors throughout Louisiana, EHDOC also listed spaces available with HUD and FEMA as a resource to provide housing to qualified individuals displaced by Hurricane Laura. The company, which is a nonprofit organization, raises money to assist victims of natural disasters, fund property amenities and obtain residency for seniors through its Senior Relief Fund.
The EHDOC Senior Relief Fund distributes capital grants to help senior applicants pay initial monthly rent when government subsidies fail. For more information or to inquire about available housing, visit www.EHDOC.org or contact the company at 954.835.9200.
