VPPD investigates shooting

On June 29, 2021 at approximately 10:30 a.m. Officers and Detectives with the Ville Platte Police Department attempted to serve a search warrant in the 900 block of Edward Knotoe Jr. Street. Upon arrival, movement could be heard inside the residence and the house was surrounded while trying to speak to the individuals inside the residence. After a short time Officers and Detectives heard a loud pop and a female inside the residence stated that the male had shot himself and they needed to break down the door. Once entering the residence they found a black male on the floor with an apparent gunshot to the chest.

Chief Lartigue stated that the male suspect was transported by Acadian Ambulance to Mercy Regional Medical Center where he died from his injuries.
