At its last monthly meeting of the year Wednesday, the Ville Platte Chamber of Commerce voted to approve four new members to its ranks.
The new Chamber members approved were Premier Data Systems, Buller Family Dentistry, Judy Guillory, and Sweet Tea and Suds.
According to Executive Director of the Chamber Camille Fontenot, “The young Bullers are opening the dentist office in Mamou on 6th Street. They bought it from Dr. Perkins who retired. They both are dentists and they want to be part of our Chamber, so we’re very glad to have them.”
Julie Spor of Sweet Tea and Suds presented the Chamber with some information on her business. “We’re a new cleaning service,” she said. “We do commercial and residential. Our home where we are working out of is in St. Landry, but we’re covering Bunkie, Ville Platte, Opelousas, Turkey Creek, and all the surrounding areas. We have all of our own cleaners and equipment, or we can use your cleaners and equipment.”
“We are insured and bonded, so people can feel safe giving us a key or a code to their business before opening or after closing,” she continued. “We clean, and we’re gone before people open back up.”
Linda Lebsack with the Chamber office informed the group about a congressional town hall meeting coming to Ville Platte. “Congressman (Mike) Johnson will be here for a town hall meeting at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, December 15 to answer questions in an open question forum,” she said.
“When you come in and sign in, you can write your question on a piece of paper, and he’ll take the questions from there. It’ll be at the Boys and Girls Club, which is kind of neat because we can show that off.”
As an aside, Lebsack also told the Chamber about a recent vote on the House floor. “I did find out from (Congressman Johnson’s) liason Jerrie LeDoux that he was one of the few Republicans who voted on a bill to give extra federal funding to after school programs.”
Fontenot also stated that the Christmas Parade in Ville Platte is scheduled for Sunday, December 3 with line up at 5:00 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club. “The more people we can have in it, the better,” she said. “It’s a great parade and probably the biggest attended. The kids love it, and the mayor is very supportive. She’s decorating the streets and city hall. Perhaps this year we will have a few vendors on the street late that afternoon and into the evening selling something to eat.”
The Chamber will not have a monthly meeting in December and will meet again on January 17, 2018.
