School scores released; Evangeline Parish remains a B

The long awaited district and school performance scores for the 2016-2017 year are here; and although the overall district performance for Evangeline Parish dropped 3.3 points, the letter grade remains a B.
Its district performance score of 92.5 puts Evangeline Parish ranked 30th in the state.
In terms of each individual school’s performance score, Chataignier Elementary was the only school to score a higher SPF for the 2016-2017 year than it did for the 2015-2016 school year. The school’s score increased a total of 2.3 points.
Overall, the district had a total of nine B schools, and two C schools, while last year there were six A schools, four B schools, and one C school.
This year’s B schools were: Basile High School, with a SPF of 97.6; Bayou Chicot Elementary, with a SPF of 88.2; Chataignier Elementary, with a SPF of 95.3; Mamou Elementary, with a SPF of 90.9; Mamou High, with a SPF of 99.3; Pine Prairie High, with a SPF of 89.3; W.W. Stewart, with a SPF of 99.9; Vidrine Elementary, with a SPF of 99.7; and James Stephens Montessori, with a SPF of 95.3.
The schools who received a C in the district were Ville Platte High School, with a SPF of 81.4, and Ville Platte Elementary, with a SPF of 67.3.
Following the release of the scores, Evangeline Parish Superintendent Darwan Lazard shared his thoughts on the schools’ performances on the state test for the 2016-17 school year.
Lazard said, “I am very pleased and delighted with the performance of our schools. In spite of changes in the Louisiana Department of Education on schools are judged, our schools have continued to work hard to be successful.
“I am very proud of our teachers and students, and I know that we are going to continue to strive to provide the best education to the students of Evangeline Parish.”
