The Mamou Police Department recently arrested two females after they attempted to enter contraband into Savoy Medical Center New Horizons, which is a mental health, substance, drug and alcohol abuse center in Mamou.
According to law enforcement officials with the MPD, on November 5, 2017, they “received a tip” that Terrika Richard, of Decateur, Ga., and Sharonna Tezeno, of Ville Platte, “were trying to sneak drugs into a local medical facility.”
While staking out the area, Soileau said, “Officers observed the two females drive down Seabury Lane with their lights off and then park at the medical facility. They then witnessed Ms. Richard get out of the car and put the drugs by a fence on the premises.”
When the subjects left the scene, officers then stopped the vehicle at the corner of Old Highway 13 and Seabury, and arrested both women.
Richard was booked into the Mamou town jail on charges of entering contraband into an institution, distribution of a schedule IV controlled dangerous substance and distribution of a schedule II CDS, while Tezeno faces charges of principal to entering contraband into an institution and principal to distribution of a CDS.
Another recent arrest made by the MPD was of Diqunn Richard for attempted murder.
Officials with the police department said that Richard was arrested after he “got into an altercation at Exxon in Mamou,” which then carried over to the “emergency room at Savoy Medical Center.”
There were a total of two adult females, three juveniles, and three adult males involved in the incident that occurred on November 3, 2017 at approximately 6:00 p.m.
The altercation that began at the convenience store eventually continued at the emergency room, because, according to Mamou Assistant Chief of Police Phyllis Soileau, “some of the guys involved in the incident had gotten into a wreck.”
Soileau said that while the individuals were arguing at the hospital, “Richard proceeded to go to a car and grab a pistol and shoot at the subjects.”
According to the assistant chief, “one bullet hit the building.”
Soileau said, “The pistol was recovered that same night in a female’s vehicle, and it showed that the pistol was only fired one time.”
Richard was picked up by officers with the MPD the following day, November 4, 2017, and booked into the town jail on one count of attempted murder.
Following these arrests, Mamou Chief of Police Brent Zackery said, “We have no tolerance for violence and drugs in our community. Therefore, we will continue our efforts to rid our streets of anyone breaking the law. You can’t escape the long arm of the law.”
