In a joint effort between the Mamou and Ville Platte Police Departments, two four-wheelers were recovered Thursday in a field off of Hickory Street in Ville Platte.
According to Mamou Assistant Chief Phyllis Soileau, the investigation began a day before on Wednesday. She said that a little after midnight a Honda four-wheeler was stolen from the home of John Soileau on Duos Street in Mamou.
“He had some cameras around his house,” Soileau said. “We were able to make out what kind of truck it was. We couldn’t see the faces too well, but yesterday afternoon we started riding around all over the place looking for that vehicle.”
“This morning we stumbled on the vehicle at Ville Platte High School,” she continued. “From there we went to speak to the subject’s mother and father, and they went check him out of school. He said that he had come to Mamou and that they had parked by the carwash. He said they had stolen the bike and dropped it off in the Kennedy Sub.”
Soileau added that the Mamou Police Department, along with the Ville Platte Police Department and the Ville Platte City Marshal Office, then located four subjects on the corner of Soileau and Main Street in Ville Platte. Soileau said, “One of them led us to believe the bike was here, so we drove down here and located the bike and also another bike that was stolen Tuesday night.”
According to Mamou Chief Brent Zachery, “We had gotten information the bikes were probably in Ville Platte. We came out here and located the male subject who is a Voris. With the help of Detective Dunn of the Ville Platte Police Department, we were able to catch all the subjects that were involved and able to bring them to the police department for questioning.”
“We have all been working hard to try to find these bikes,” he continued. “Ville Platte had some too that were stolen, and they have been working hard. We put our heads together and ended up finding these bikes.”
Detective Alex Dunn from the Ville Platte Police Department stated that the other bike that was recovered Thursday afternoon was stolen between Sunday night and Monday morning from a home off of Natchitoches Drive. “We got lucky today with one suspect,” he said. “We went to the Mamou Police Department, and they told us where the bike was. That was the bike that was missing off of Natchitoches. We got lucky today, and we got back both of the bikes from this weekend.”
