Shortly after 8:30 pm on December 17, 2018, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a two vehicle crash that resulted in a fatality on LA Hwy 10 west of US Hwy 167 in Evangeline Parish. The crash took the life of 62-year-old Connie Fuselier of Eunice.
The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Fuselier was riding a 2007 Honda motorcycle eastbound on LA Hwy 10. At the same time, 28-year-old Chris Humphrey of Baton Rouge was traveling westbound on LA Hwy 10 in a 2012 Dodge Ram. As the two vehicles approached, Fuselier crossed over into the westbound lane. In an attempt to avoid the collision, Humphrey steered left. Fuselier steered back right and the vehicles struck head-on near the center line.
Fuselier suffered serious injuries as a result of the crash. He was transported from the scene to Mercy Regional Medical Center in Ville Platte where he succumbed to those injuries. Impairment on his part is unknown at this time, but a toxicology sample will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Humphrey was properly restrained and was uninjured, and impairment is not suspected. This crash remains under investigation.
Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists to always make good decisions while in a motor vehicle. Making good choices such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, avoiding all distractions, and obeying all traffic laws can often mean the difference between life and death. While not all crashes are survivable, Troopers encourage all riders to take an approved motorcycle safety course.
