A Eunice man who escaped from the St. Landry Parish Jail Monday, February 11, 2019 led law enforcement officers on a foot chase in Evangeline Parish earlier today at around 1:00 p.m.
The inmate, 34-year-old Ronald Adam McGee, was spotted by Mamou Chief of Police Brent Zackery along La. Hwy. 13 riding what the chief said has been identified as a stolen four wheeler.
According to the chief, he and his detective, Drew Fruge, were traveling south on Hwy. 13 headed toward Eunice when he “noticed the four wheeler coming from Eunice.”
Chief Zackery said he at first thought it may have been a farmer, until the four wheeler got closer and recognized McGee as the driver.
At that moment, he stated, “We tried to pull him over, but he didn’t stop. He continued to head towards Mamou.”
The chief said, “We got on the side of him and told him to pull over but he sped up and got in front of my unit. We ended up hitting the four wheeler with the bumper of the unit and caused it to flip.”
According to Chief Zackery, McGee at that point got up and proceeded to run from law enforcement on foot.
The chief stated he chased McGee until he lost him in a wood line near La. Hwy. 374 or the Duralde Hwy.
The Eunice News described McGee as six foot two inches tall and weighing 195 pounds. They also shared McGee was in jail on theft and burglary charges.
