On Wednesday, a grand jury was assembled in Evangeline Parish and tasked with determining if there was enough evidence to indict Robert Marquez Wilson for the murder of Kathy Weston.
The true bill comes a week-an-a-half shy of the one year anniversary of Weston’s murder, which occurred on April 23, 2017 when the 46-year-old female was walking to a store near the corner of Chataignier and Jackson Street in Ville Platte.
Following the grand jury decision, Evangeline Parish District Attorney Trent Brignac shared that “a warrant has been issued for the arrest of Marquez.”
According to the district attorney, Marquez became a suspect in this matter after the original suspect arrested, 19-year-old Tiberrious Wilson, was released from jail and more information regarding the murder was brought to light by individuals who witnessed the incident transpire. Brignac said, “In conjunction with Tiberrious being released, eye witnesses came forward confirming that they observed Marquez as the shooter.”
On behalf of the State of Louisiana, First Assistant District Attorney Marcus Fontenot presented the evidence in this case to the grand jury, who reached its decision to indict Marquez for the charge of second degree murder around 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
At this time, no arraignment date has been set for Marquez.
Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Marquez is asked to contact the District Attorney's Office at 337) 363-3438.
