The Evangeline Parish School Board heard from Vic Slaven with Kolder, Slaven & Company, LLC at the board’s meeting last Wednesday.
However, before Slaven shared audit information with the board, Ville Platte Elementary’s French Immersion students recited the pledge and sang Christmas songs in French for those in attendance at the meeting.
The students who participated in this activity were Aaliyah James, Elijah Buxton, Isabella Briley, Jayla Poullard, JaCorian Poullard and Khalyl Thibodeaux.
Slaven informed the board that the school district had a “clean unmodified opinion” for its most recent audit.
Slaven also reported that there were no findings in the audit for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2017.
The board also heard from the school district’s assistant superintendent, Mike Lombas, who announced that two middle school students from Evangeline Parish made the District 3 Intermediate Honors Band.
Lombas shared that the students who were selected for the intermediate band are Sebatian Lee, who plays the saxophone at Bayou Chicot Elementary, and Joshua Olflander, who plays the flute at Basile High.
It was then Ville Platte High Principal Melanie Miller who stepped to the podium during the meeting to thank board members for work that has been done on the VPHS campus.
Miller said, “The VPHS staff and myself would like to thank you board members for having the horseshoe repaired. We really appreciate it.”
As a token of their appreciation, the VPHS principal presented each board member with an aerial view photo of the school’s main building and re-done horseshoe driveway.
During the meeting, the board also elected their officers for the upcoming year.
The board chose to keep the officers the same, which means president of the board will be Wayne Dardeau and the vice president will be Scott Limoges.
Items approved at the meeting:
•Payment in the amount of $5,220.00 to Savoy Music Center for speakers and sound system for the Basile football field using Basile athletic funds.
•Payment in the amount of $165,499.50 to M.D. Descent, LLC for payment number eight for Basile High School improvements using Basile bond proceeds.
