Local media has been working with detectives from the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office to provide information to the public regarding a high speed chance that occurred on Saturday, April 7, 2018.
After further investigations of the incident, the EPSO shared the following press release:
"On 4-7-2018, deputies of the Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office observed a grey Honda Civic traveling west on Old Park Rd. Deputies identified the driver as Samuel Damien Lee of Ville Platte. Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle when it turned north on to U.S. 167 N. due to Mr. Lee having several felony warrants. Mr. Lee refused to yield and led deputies on a pursuit, which traveled through Evangeline, Avoyelles, St. Landry, and Rapides Parishes. The vehicle came to a stop on a mud road off of Cheneyville Echo Rd. in Rapides Parish. The occupants, identified as Samuel Lee, and an unidentified white femal, fled on foot into a nearby wildlife refuge. Deputies from Evangeline and Rapides Parishes, officers of Bunkie and Cheneyville Police Department, and Louisiana State Troopers of Troop E, tracked Mr. Lee and the female through the refuge for several hours. The vehicle was found to have been stolen in Jefferson Parish. Due to weather conditions and officer safety, the search was canceled.
Mr. Lee is known to carry a firearm and has an extensive criminal history involving auto theft. If located, please avoid the subjects and notify local law enforcement.
Special thanks to Louisiana State Police Troope E, Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office, Cheneyville Police Dept., Bunkie Police Dept., and Cheneyville Fire Dept. for their assistance."
