The Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested a fourth individual, who has been identified as Colby Babineaux, in connection with the recent theft of three all-terrain vehicles (ATV).
The stolen ATV’s were recovered during a traffic stop that occurred on Friday, April 27, 2018, along Hwy. 29 (Whiteville Rd.) near Rue de Coton.
Arrested on the scene were Bryce P. Fontenot, Daniel S. Johnson and Drake P. Lee.
At the time of the incident, Major Jeremy Mitchell, with the EPSO, shared that during the traffic stop, “the driver began to act suspicious.” This according to Mitchell “led the officer to check the information on the four-wheelers,” which confirmed that three of the four ATV’s being hauled by the truck were stolen.
According to an EPSO press release, the “three suspects were taken into custody and transported to the Evangeline Parish Jail for questioning and booking.”
The release stated that “during the proceeding investigation, it was determined that the suspects stole the ATV’s on April 26 and April 27, 2018 and were on their way to an ATV ride in Central Louisiana.”
After identifying the fourth suspect in this matter as Babineaux, the suspect “was taken into custody in St. Landry Parish.”
According to the release, “vehicles used to commit the thefts have been seized by the Criminal Investigation Division.”
In the release, the EPSO thanked St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in this matter.
With the recovery of these ATV’s, the EPSO has recovered a total of 11 stolen ATV’s during the month of April.
