Fishermen from across the parish tried their luck at bass fishing on Saturday, March 16th, as they took part in the Third Annual Crooked Creek Benefit Fishing Tournament.
A total of 17 teams entered the tournament, but only three teams were awarded cash prizes for their impressive catches. The winning teams were: Brody Bonnette and Marcus Dupree, who placed first with a total of four fish weighing 5.57 pounds; Brian Soileau and Brandon Theriot, who placed second with a total of two catches weighing 4.86 lbs.; and Kyle and Seth Soileau, who placed third with four fish weighing 4.83 lbs. Following the announcement of winners, names were drawn for door prizes donated by Evangeline Parish Assessor Dirk Deville, Chief Deputy Assessor Josh Fontenot and Evangeline Parish Police Jury Member Bryan Vidrine. Tournament organizer Collin Courville also thanked Deville's Grocery in Pine Prairie for allowing them to use its scale for the final weigh in.
Another fishing tournament is set to take place at Crooked Creek the first weekend in May.
