Evangeline Parish District Attorney Trent Brignac announced on Wednesday that his office has received the Louisiana State Police investigative file from the deputy involved shooting that ended the life of DeJuan Guillory last July. This mean that the investigation into the shooting death of Guillory by an Evangeline Parish Deputy is now complete.
According to a release from Brignac’s office, “he and his staff immediately began reviewing the documentation,” after receiving it last Friday, November 3, 2017.
In the release it states, “Everybody involved in the incident as well as the public deserve thorough and well-considered decisions as it applies to the ultimate outcome.”
The release went on to state that “although the review of a voluminous four-month investigation is a significant undertaking that will require considerable time and man hours, every effort is being made to prioritize this matter in hopes that the families involved and the public as well will come to know the details of what happened that morning as well as the steps and procedures involved in moving forward.”
The district attorney’s office also thanked all of those involved in this matter for their “patience and understanding over these past four months while this investigation was ongoing.”
The release states, “State Police had many other high priority cases in addition to this one and did not want to rush the investigation at the risk of compromising the quality and thoroughness of their work.”
According to the D.A.’s office, they are “not in a position to ethically give additional information to the public at this time as it may prejudice those that ultimately have to make decisions regarding this matter.”
However, the D.A.’s office says that they “will reach out to the families involved in an effort to give them more insight as to what happened during this tragic situation.”
