VPPD makes three recent arrests

The Ville Platte Police Department made several arrests recently, one of which was for possession of stolen goods and two others for aggravated assault.
The incident involving stolen goods resulted in the arrest of 30-year-old Perkins Lafleur, III, of 2002 Tulip St., Lake Charles.
In a release from the VPPD, it states that on “January 12, 2018, the VPPD received a call that a vehicle parked at a pawn shop on Chataignier Road may be stolen.”
According to the release, “A black male went into the pawn shop to pawn some tools from the truck and while looking at the tools the pawnshop owner noticed a business name and phone number on the truck.”
The release goes on to state that “after calling the number the store owner found out that the truck had been stolen from Lake Charles.”
“The suspect,” according to the press release, “became nervous and fled the area with another black male and a black female inside the vehicle.”
In the release it states that “a concerned citizen followed the truck while informing the police department of their current location as officers worked to intercept the stolen truck.”
When the vehicle was eventually stopped in the 300 block of East Long St, the release states that “the male suspect fled on foot and a male and female were detained at the scene and brought in for questioning.”
Lafleur, who was the male suspect that fled the scene, was later “apprehended in an apartment in Ville Platte.”
Lafleur was booked in the city jail on the charge of illegal possession of stolen goods, and his bond was set at $25,000.00 by Judge Gary Ortego.
The other two individuals were released after they were interviewed.
The second recent arrest made by the VPPD occurred on January 14, 2018 after officers “responded to a report of a disturbance on North Soileau St.”
When officers arrived at the scene, they “learned that a male suspect at the residence had threatened a female relative with a knife.”
According to the press release, “the suspect also threatened to harm himself.”
In the release from the VPPD, it states that “Acadian Ambulance was called to the residence to assess the situation,” and “after treatment at Mercy Regional Medical Center, Derek Matthews, 27, of 605 North Soileau Street, Ville Platte, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault.”
Matthews’s bond was set at $25,000.00 by Judge Ortego.
The final recent arrest made by the VPPD occurred on January 19, 2018 and resulted in the arrest of Dawquan Antoine, 21, of 1102 Tate Cove Rd.
According to a VPPD press release, Antoine was arrested after officers “responded to a disturbance call in the area of Soileau Street and Magnolia Street.”
The press release states that “upon arrival, officers learned that two black males were involved in an altercation and one of the males pulled a gun on the other male.”
The release goes on to state that “officers obtained the identity of the suspect as Daequan Antoine.”
According to the release, the 21-year-old was taken into custody without incident, and the gun was located.”
Antoine was booked into the city jail on the charge of aggravated assault, and also on an outstanding warrant from 2017 for criminal damage to property.
Antoine’s bond was set at $25,000.00 for the aggravated assault charge and $11,500.00 for the outstanding warrant.
