Two suspicious calls made to local businesses are currently being investigated by the Ville Platte Police Department.
In a release from Ville Platte Chief of Police Neal Lartigue, he reported that there have been two incidents where businesses were contacted from an out of state number by a male suspect who stated that he was a lieutenant with the federal marshals office and needed information about their businesses.
According to the chief’s release, “The caller stated that he needed to know how many employees were on duty and how much money they had at their location.”
He continued, “During the call to at least one of the businesses the caller told the manager to remove all of the money from the safe for pick up.”
Since these incidents occurred, Lartigue warns owners and employees of businesses to be careful of this type of caller. He also said, “Never give any information of this nature to anyone over the phone.”
The chief asks that if a business receives a call of this sort, write down the number that called and as much information as you can and then report it immediately to the Ville Platte Police Department by calling (337) 363-1313.
