The Ville Platte Chamber of Commerce will host its monthly meeting on Wednesday, January 17th, to address its recent loss of funding from the Evangeline Parish Police Jury.
The meeting, which will begin at 12:00 p.m. at Cottage Couture, was announced through an email last week, which stated, “On December 22, 2017, Donald Bergeron emailed a notice to the Ville Platte Chamber of Commerce stating that the monthly payment of $650 to the Ville Platte Chamber of Commerce for industrial inducement has been removed from the Evangeline Parish Police Jury’s budget.”
The loss of this $7,800 received yearly by the chamber was described in the meeting announcement as “detrimental to our Ville Platte Chamber.”
The Ville Platte Gazette reached out to Ville Platte Chamber Executive Director Camille Fontenot for a comment on this matter, but she did not want to discuss the situation until the meeting.
The Gazette also called Bergeron who shared, “Representatives of the Chamber and the Evangeline Parish Police Jury are in discussion over this matter right now. I am not authorized to issue any other statement at this time.”
