Fall elections are still months away as candidates continue to announce for several seats in Evangeline Parish. The election will be held statewide on October 12, with a runoff election on November 16.
Evangeline Parish will be electing a sheriff, state senator, state representative, clerk of court, assessor, coroner and police jurors. The fall ballot, October 12, also will feature the governor’s race, lieutenant governor, secretary of state, attorney general, treasurer, commissioner of agriculture, commissioner of insurance and board of elementary and secondary education (Districts Five and Eight).
Registrar Lucas Buller and his office are already preparing for the fall elections making sure paperwork is completed. Buller said those interested parties wishing to qualify for the October election will do so between Tuesday, August 6, and Thursday, August 8. Those wishing to vote in that election will have until September 11, to register to vote.
Early voting dates for the October election will be Saturday, September 28, to Saturday, October 5, excluding any Sunday in that time frame.
Deadline for adding propositions to that October ballot is July 9. At this time, there are no propositions, according to Buller, but the deadline is still a few weeks away.

Candidates have until August 9 to submit an announcement to the paper, which must be written in 400 words. After that date, announcements must be run as paid advertisements.
