The recent tornadoes that tore through Evangeline Parish on May 19 left a path of destruction, but they also left new worries for at least one resident. Randy Pitre, who lives on the outskirts of Ville Platte, said his damaged rental home has been broken into. Thieves have raided his home several times, stealing his medication, his breathing treatment apparatus, three TVs and three air conditioners. Pitre said, “It makes me feel bad. For everything that I worked for, they’re coming in and stealing.”
Pitre’s shoulder was injured from the tornado when a dresser fell on him. His home is currently unlivable, so he has been sleeping in his car and on his porch to deter the thieves.
Deputies with the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office said they are still patrolling areas hit hard by the tornadoes. Pitre’s landlord said they are going to rebuild the home, but don’t know when it will be completed.
If anybody would like to help Randy, call him at (337) 366-9347.
