The new library may be complete in Chataignier, but the village still has some work to do on the old library before it can be used as a community center that people can rent for events.
During a recent Chataignier Council meeting, Village Administrator, Gale McDavid, shared that the new vinyl flooring has been laid in the building, “but we still have a lot left to be done to get it in working order.”
Items that currently need to be repaired or replaced, according to McDavid, include the sink, toilet and plumbing. However, the cost for the remaining repairs, McDavid reported, will exceed the $800.00 left from the grant being used to get the building in working order.
According to McDavid, a new water heater will need to purchased, and the kitchen sink, bathroom sink and toilet will all need to be re-plumbed. He also said that sheetrock would need to be replaced in one corner of the building due to the fact that sheetrock had been cut out for mold removal. McDavid said, “The sheetrock has to be replaced because it is right over the electrical box.”
The village administrator estimated that the cost of the remaining work will total around $1,200.00.
When it came to determining how the village would fund the remainder of the project, the council decided that it would use general fund money to finish the repairs. Council members approved allocating $1,500.00 to the repairs of the old library that way work could continue even after the $800.00 left from the grant has been spent.
Following this discussion, part-time officer Kalenski Ardoin resigned from his position with the Chataignier Police Department. While giving his resignation, Ardoin said, “I just want to thank you for your time and for allowing me to work in your community.”
