Council members for the Village of Turkey Creek were tasked with determining whether it would move money from a rainy day fund to the police department fund during its meeting on Tuesday.
The purpose, according to Mayor Heather Cloud, would be to balance the village’s budget otherwise, she said, “this will be a finding in our audit.”
Cloud also said, “Our CPA has stressed the need to move $30,000.00 from a rainy day fund.”
The money being moved will come from a savings account that $80,000 from the police department was moved to back in July of 2017.
A portion of that $80,000 was put back into the police department fund in August of 2017 when the fund was nearly depleted. After moving the money, the rainy day fund was left with $45,000.
The money is being moved back to the police department fund, due to the fact that the police department did not bring in the amount of revenues budgeted.
The council approved moving the $30,000, which now leaves the police department with $15,000 in the rainy day fund.
The council also made the decision to hire Tebo Onishea as a new part-time officer to patrol the village. The new patrolman also works as an officer full-time with the Glenmora Police Department. His salary will start at $12 an hour like all other patrolmen.
During new business discussion, the council also proposed to amend an ordinance for an office operations policy procedure and collections, which was revised and edited by the mayor and village clerk.
A public hearing will be held at the Village Hall for the amended ordinance on Friday, June 29, 2018, at 12:00 p.m.
Other new business discussed included hearing from Jamie Fontenot, who shared with the council his plans to run for Evangeline Parish Sheriff in 2019.
