A hearing was held on Thursday in 13th Judicial District Court Judge Gary Ortego’s courtroom for John Isaac Foret, who was arrested in May of 2018 for an incident that resulted in the shooting death of Turkey Creek resident Edwin Wesley Snoddy.
In this matter, Foret faces two separate charges, which include intimidating a witness and second degree murder.
The second degree murder charge is a result of a grand jury’s decision to issue a true bill on May 30, 2018. The incident that led to his indictment occurred on May 18, 2018 after Foret drove to Snoddy’s residence in Turkey Creek and shot the victim outside of his home located on Snoddy Lane.
A few days after the incident, a press release from the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office was released that shared some details of the matter. In the release, the sheriff’s office stated, upon arrival at the scene of the crime, “deputies found that a male subject had been shot during a disturbance in which both subjects were armed.” The release went on to state that Foret, who had left the scene, was later found “in a nearby area” and “questioned briefly.”
Foret was released from custody that same night after he advised law enforcement that he wanted an attorney.
The defendant’s second charge is a result of the arrest that occurred after his release when he allegedly intimidated a witness into staying at his residence.
During the hearing on Thursday, Foret’s attorneys, Mike Smalls and Jacob Fusilier, requested more time to review the discovery file of evidence and for pretrial motions to be heard, which was granted.
Foret’s probing and trial dates have now been set for November 8, 2018 and November 26, 2018.
