A stolen vehicle from Ville Platte was involved in an incident near the Housing Authority in Basile that left the vicinity riddled with bullets after a shooting that occurred in the early morning hours of Tuesday, July 23.
According to Assistant Chief of Police Wilbert McClinton with the Basile Police Department, the call was received approximately a half hour after receiving a call of vehicles being stolen from a nearby residence.
In a press release, McClinton said, “At approximately 11:58 p.m., on Monday, July 22, The Basile Police Department received a report from Evangeline Parish 911 of a theft of a trailer and two four wheelers from a residence on Dr. Bobby Deshotel Ave.”
The press release continued as follows: “Upon investigation, officers discovered the theft had just occurred and began to canvas the area.”
“At approximately 12:22 a.m. on July 23, the Basile Police Department received a second call from Evangeline Parish 911. During the call, a report of a disturbance involving gunshots was reported on Ford Ave. at or near the Basile Housing Authority. Upon investigation, it was learned two large groups of individuals had been involved in both physical and verbal altercations. Before officers arrived at the scene, a group of approximately six to eight young males fled the scene in one single vehicle. Upon their departure, someone in the vehicle fired several shots, apparently in the air.”
“Upon further investigation, it was learned that several of the individuals, who were involved in the disturbance, at the Housing Authority, had recently stolen a pickup truck out of Ville Platte. The stolen truck was driven to Basile by several of those individuals. The same truck was then used during the theft of the trailer and the four wheelers.”
Arrest warrants have been issued, by the Basile Police Department, and arrests are pending.
No one was injured, according to Police Chief Allen Ivory, Jr., and there are currently no suspects.
Ivory said the stolen vehicles have all been recovered.
