Savoy Medical Center’s Radiology Department is advancing its technology by going completely digital and becoming the only hospital in Evangeline Parish to offer digital radiography.
According to the Mamou based hospital, “digital radiography is a form of X-ray imaging, where digital X-ray sensors are used instead of traditional photographic film.”
In a release from SMC, the advantages that come with using digital radiography include “time efficiency through bypassing chemical processing and the ability to digitally transfer and enhance images.” The release also stated that “less radiation can be used to produce an image of similar contrast to conventional radiography.”
According to SMC, digital radiography will allow for “immediate image preview and availability; elimination of costly film processing steps; a wider dynamic range, which makes it more forgiving for over and under exposure; as well as the ability to apply special image processing techniques that enhance overall display quality of the image.”
This new technology is now available for all X-ray imaging procedures at SMC.
