As our plans are being finalized for our 35th Annual Boggy Bayou Festival, which is set for Thursday through Saturday, April 4-6, it brings about bittersweet memories.
This will be my final year to serve as a Boggy Bayou board member. Myself and Bernice Ardoin, who is also planning to retire from the board, have been members of the board since day one.
We have seen many changes through the years and have worked hard, along with the rest of the board, to raise money for Prairie Manor.
Over the 34 years, we have accomplished so much and have given our residents many things with the festival proceeds they would not have gotten.
Boggy Bayou Festival, Inc. is a non-profit organization whose sole purpose is to raise funds for Prairie Manor Nursing Home, located in the northern portion of Evangeline Parish in Pine Prairie.
Again, over the years, Boggy Bayou Festival has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to do many wonderful things for our residents like build a non-denominational chapel, purchase handicap vans, purchase beds, and equipment, all used to better care for our residents.
Prairie Manor Nursing Home Board of Directors and the administrative staff recognizes how hard the volunteers work to make this festival possible. Countless hours of time goes in to putting on such an event.
The success of this festival is due to the many volunteers and the community coming together to support the cause. This was a dream of the late Jim Conway and the late Father Leslie Prescott that we must keep going. Of course, Bernice and I will still be around to help out but we want to sit back and enjoy the festival in the future.
None of this would be possible without people attending our festival and supporting its cause. Because of you, we are able to continue to do this.
So, make plans now to attend the 35th Annual Boggy Bayou Festival and remember the reason you are supporting this great cause. God bless you.
