The 2% sales tax levy which was overwhelmingly approved by voters of Pine Prairie cleared the final step needed before final passage as the village council voted to adopt the necessary ordinance during its meeting on May 9.
“This is just finalizing everything,” said Mayor Quint West.
The council voted to introduce the ordinance during its previous meeting in April and adopted it after a public hearing which preceded this month’s meeting.
Because of the tax, the council also voted to authorize the mayor to enter into an agreement between the village and the Department of Public Safety and Corrections. “It’s saying they are agreeing to collect the tax on vehicle bought or used in the village,” said Mayor West.
The council also voted to adopt an Municipal Water Pollution Prevention ordinance.
