Qualifying for the October elections is set for next week

With the election date of October 12 approaching, the qualifying period to get candidates’ names on the ballot begins Tuesday, August 6, at the Evangeline Parish Clerk of Court Office. Qualifying will then run through Thursday, August 8, from the hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day.
The following is a listing of fees associated with qualifying for each office.
State Senator:
Independents or No Party- $300.00
Democrats- $450.00
Republicans- $450.00

State Representative:
Independents or No Party- $225.00
Democrats- $337.50
Republicans- $337.50

Sheriff:
Independents or No Party- $225.00
Democrats- $337.50
Republicans- $337.50

Assessor:
Independents or No Party- $225.00
Democrats- $337.50
Republicans- $337.50

Clerk of Court:
Independents or No Party- $225.00
Democrats- $337.50
Republicans- $337.50

Coroner:
Independents or No Party- $225.00
Democrats- $337.50
Republicans- $337.50

Police Juror:
Independents or No Party- $115.00
Democrats- $172.50
Republicans- $172.50

Clerk of Court Randy Deshotel said, “Only cash or money orders or cashier’s checques will be accepted as payment for qualifying fees. If it is a money order or cashier’s checque, it must be made payable to the Evangeline Parish Clerk of Court.”
