Qualifying for the October 12 primary election began Tuesday morning at the Evangeline Parish Clerk of Court’s office and other such offices throughout the state and runs until 4:30 p.m. today.
Clerk Randy Deshotel stated this qualifying period is the first where his office uses new equipment from the Louisiana Secretary of State’s office for elections. The new equipment includes laptop computers which feed directly into the SOS system.
The first to qualify was incumbent clerk Deshotel who is seeking his third term in office. Once he signed his necessary paperwork, Neal Lartigue, candidate for Evangeline Parish Sheriff, and Evangeline Parish Police Jury President Ryan “Leday” Williams, candidate for re-election as Evangeline Parish Police Jury in District 8, followed suit.
Meanwhile in Baton Rouge, qualifying for statewide races also began at the SOS office.
The following is a list of candidates who qualified for parish and statewide races as of noon on Wednesday. These candidates will appear on the ballot here in Evangeline Parish.
