Over the last 12 days, the Pine Prairie Police Department made two separate arrests related to charges of burglary and theft.
The first arrest stemmed from an incident which occurred at the beginning of August.
A press release from the village’s police department said as follows:
“On August 3, Pine Prairie Police was dispatched to a break-in of a residence where the vehicle and other items were stolen. It appeared the suspect had gotten in through an unlocked window of the residence. The vehicle was entered into NCIC as stolen, and, a few hours later, Woodworth Police had the vehicle stopped.”
“The driver, Megan Chaffin of Pine Prairie, was arrested by Woodworth Police Department and transferred to the Rapides Parish Jail on other charges with a hold for Pine Prairie.”
“At this time, Chaffin is being held at the Rapides Parish Jail pending transfer to the Evangeline Parish Jail to face burglary, theft, and theft of automobile charges with a $62,500 bond set by Judge Chuck West.”
“All stolen items, including the vehicle, were returned to the victim.”
Chief L.C. Deshotel wants to thank the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office and Woodworth Police Department for the assistance in this matter.
The second arrest stemmed from an incident which occurred about a week later.
The same press release from the village’s police department said as follows:
“On August 11, Pine Prairie Police received a call of a break-in of a residence where the home owner came back to find the suspect still in the shed.”
“The homeowner began taking photos of the suspect. The suspect then left the area before police arrived but was identified by the photos as John Trevor Leger of Pine Prairie.”
“Upon investigation, it was found that Leger had also broken into the house along with the shed, stole several items, and damaged the residence. The items were later recovered at the residence of Leger. An arrest warrant was issued on Leger for burglary, theft, and criminal damage to property.”
“On August 14, Leger was arrested on the warrant without incident where he was booked into the Evangeline Parish Jail on a $135,000 bond set by Judge Chuck West.
